Stolen Guns and Drugs Land Four Men in Sioux Falls Jail
Four men sit in a Sioux Falls jail right now on stolen gun and meth charges.
Dakota News Now is reporting that 20-Kohl Hammer of Canton, 25-year-old Zachary Kooyman, 28-year-old Judah Wainscoat, and 23-year-old Tyson Garnmester of Sioux Falls were all taken into custody Monday (April 27) and booked on a variety of charges.
Sioux Falls Public Information Officer Sam Clemens told Dakota News Now that Sioux Falls Police were tipped off by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office that Hammer might be attempting to sell stolen guns in Sioux Falls.
Authorities located Hammer on Monday night at a hotel near 41st Street and I-29. Police witnessed Hammer handing a backpack to someone sitting inside a car.
Authorities caught up with the individuals inside the vehicle a short time later at an apartment on Valhalla Boulevard. Inside the car at the time, was the driver, Kooyman, and two passengers, Wainscoat and Garnmester.
Dakota New Now reports, police took all three of the men inside the vehicle into custody, and then they went back to the hotel and arrested Hammer.
Two stolen guns were found on Kooyman at the time of his arrest. Wainscoat also had a stolen gun in his possession at the time he was taken into custody. All three men reportedly had a small amount of meth on them as well.
According to Dakota News Now, Hammer was charged with first-degree burglary and possession of a firearm by a former drug offender. Wainscoat, and Kooyman, were charged with possession of a stolen firearm.
All four men are now staring at assorted drug-related charges in addition to the weapons charges they face.
Additional charges may be filed in the coming days by Lincoln County authorities.
