Pig Rescued Recently from the Big Sioux River Has Passed Away
Some sad news. The pig that was rescued last week from the banks of the Big Sioux River has passed away.
Dakota News Now reports that a small pig was spotted on the banks of the Big Sioux on Thursday, (July 18) which prompted Sioux Falls Animal Control and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue to snap into action to perform a water rescue just north of Falls Park a short time later.
The gang at Sioux Falls Park and Rec nicknamed the pig Eric Jr. and it was never really determined where he came from, Eric Jr. just kinda appeared out of thin air.

According to Dakota News Now, once the pig was rescued he was taken to Happy Pig Haven Sanctuary near Lyons. On Tuesday, (July 23) Happy Pig Haven posted an update on the pig's condition. X-rays were conducted on Eric Jr., and it was determined he was having difficulties breathing due to either physical trauma or some birth defect. Veterinarians discovered that his intestines were filling up his collapsed lung.
In the statement issued by the folks with Happy Pig Haven Sanctuary on Tuesday, they went on to say that they wanted to thank everyone rooting for Eric Jr. on his amazing journey. However, it's with a sad heart that due to Eric Jr.'s health conditions, a decision was made to end his suffering. He will be greatly missed!
