The Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium in Sioux Falls are truly jewels in our city. They are leaders in education, conservation, and family entertainment.

The doors to discovery at the Great Plains Zoo are open 7 days a week from 9 AM to 5 PM and on Wild Wednesdays from 9 AM to 7 PM.

Now as a thanks to everyone who has supported the zoo and with the help of funding approved by the Sioux Falls City Council, the zoo will be offering three community appreciation days. On these days, admission to the zoo will only be $5 per person.

The aim is to make the zoo more accessible to more people.

These are the upcoming Great Plains Zoo Community Appreciation Days:

  • Friday, August 2
  • Monday, September 2
  • Monday, October 14

The zoo recommends buying your tickets online to avoid long lines. Guests who purchase tickets online can go directly to the zoo gate and have them scanned.

If it's been a while since you've been to the zoo, or maybe you've never been there, these special community days are the perfect opportunity to check it out.

So whether your family loves monkeys, lions, tigers, giraffes, exotic birds, rhinos,  zebras, or the animals in the zoo farm, there is something that everyone will find exciting. You can also cool off in the zoo's new splash pad and find beverages and food at the Roar Cafe.

You'll learn while you're looking, and just by coming to the zoo, you're supporting its mission of conservation and saving endangered species. It's an awesome way to connect with the wild world.

Standing Where South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota Meet

Wanna stand in three states at once? You can do just that at the Tri-State Iron Monument just outside the city of Valley Springs, South Dakota.

It's a simple monument, but it's neat to know so much history lies in the area. You just have to know where to look.
