It's always one of the highlights of springtime in downtown Sioux Falls, the installation of new artwork at the Sioux Falls Sculpture Walk.

The 2024 exhibition kicks off this Friday and Saturday, May 3rd and 4th, as installation weekend gets underway in downtown Sioux Falls.

80 new sculptures will be installed in the downtown region, along with other high-traffic areas like the Steel District, the Cherapa Place campus, and the Cathedral District!

This year's crop of new artwork features more pieces than previous years.

Andrew Eitreim, SculptureWalk board chair told Dakota News Now, “Bringing art to the people is our pride and mission. As we unveil our 2024 exhibition, we reaffirm our dedication to enriching our community through accessible, inspiring public art. Join us in celebrating the beauty and creativity that enriches our city.”

The 80 pieces of new artwork won't be the only thing new in 2024 when it comes to the Sioux Falls Sculpture Walk. There's a new and improved SculptureWalk website that promises users a more intuitive and immersive experience.

Jim Mathis, SculptureWalk board member, told Dakota News Now, “The new website design offers a completely transformed user experience with enhanced accessibility to information about the sculptures and greater engagement through upgraded features like People’s Choice voting, donation submission, and more.”

Sioux Falls can add this little tidbit to its list of bragging rights, SculptureWalk Sioux Falls is the largest annual sculpture exhibit in the world! And 2024 marks the 21st year the Sioux Falls SculptureWalk has been in existence.

You can get a preview of the new sculptures coming, and find out where they will be located here.

Haunted Locations and Scary Legends Around Sioux Falls

Halloween is steeped in scary traditions. Trick-or-Treating, frightening costumes, local actors in "haunted" houses, and the pitch-black darkness of area corn mazes.

However, if we set out to find the real haunted areas what would we find? Over the last 30 years that I have lived in Sioux Falls, a few locations still gain attention as being haunted.

And yes, a handful of thrill-seeking people will show up on our favorite eerie night for what could be a viral video moment or experience a misty phantom first-hand.
Let's take a little tour of the more famous hauntings around Sioux Falls. Turn on the lights and cue the Cowardly Lion: "I do believe in spooks, I do believe in spooks..."
