A major spring storm could bring 6 to 12 inches of snow to portions of South Dakota and Minnesota beginning Tuesday and continuing through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Aberdeen and the Twin Cities, residents of Northeastern South Dakota and Westcentral Minnesota are under a WINTER STORM WATCH from 7 am Tuesday, April 1, until we 7 pm Wednesday, April 2.

- Heavy Snow Accumulations: 6-12 inches expected across affected areas, with some localities potentially seeing double-digit snowfall totals.
- Mixed Precipitation: Periods of wintry mix, including light ice glazing possible.
- Strong Winds: Gusts up to 40 mph in South Dakota and 35 mph in Minnesota
- Snow Quality: Expect heavy, slushy snow.

South Dakota Counties: McPherson, Edmunds, Faulk, Spink, Clark, Codington, Hamlin, and Deuel, including the cities of Ipswich, Eureka, Clark, Clear Lake, Redfield, Watertown, Hayti, and Faulkton.
Minnesota Counties: Douglas, Stevens, Pope, Swift, and Kandiyohi, including the cities of Glenwood, Benson, Alexandria, Morris, and Willmar.
Timing and Impacts
The system will arrive in western Minnesota on Tuesday morning, with heavy snow beginning in the afternoon and continuing overnight as the system pushes eastward.
An influx of mid-level warm air may cause precipitation to transition between snow and rain, particularly along the southern edge of the storm track.
Snow is expected to diminish by Wednesday afternoon as the system continues into the Great Lakes region.
