Sioux Falls Water Tower Is Getting Some Major Work Done

Have you driven by the giant water tower by 57th Street and Cliff Ave. in Sioux Falls lately?

There is a major maintenance project taking place high above the street.

East 57th Street Water Tower at 2201 E. 57th Street is being sandblasted, repaired and completely repainted. The work began August 3, 2026.

The framework and cables you see around the top are part of the project.

The tower is being shrouded during the sandblasting and painting to contain debris and paint residue.

The crews are essentially stripping the old coating, making repairs and then applying a new protective coating.

A few interesting details:

• The tower holds 1.5 million gallons of water.

• The work is routine maintenance intended to extend the tower's lifespan.

• It will receive a new paint/coating system after the surface is prepared.

• Work is expected to be substantially completed by the end of October 2026.

• The City says residents should not experience significant changes in water pressure or water volume during the project.
