How To See The Deep Partial Lunar Eclipse Around Sioux Falls

Get ready to look up Thursday night! A spectacular deep partial lunar eclipse will be visible from Sioux Falls and much of the United States!

Weather permitting, the deep partial lunar eclipse will be visible on the night of August 27 into August 28, 2026.

According to NASA, about 96% of the Moon will pass into Earth's dark central shadow at the eclipse's greatest point, making this one of the most dramatic partial lunar eclipses in years.

The Moon may take on a dark copper or reddish-orange appearance during the event.

For Sioux Falls, the eclipse gets underway Thursday, August 27, with the subtle penumbral phase beginning at 8:23 p.m.

The more noticeable partial eclipse begins at approximately 9:33 p.m.

The best time to watch will be around 11:12 p.m. Thursday night, when the eclipse reaches its maximum in the Sioux Falls area.

At that point, roughly 93% of the Moon's diameter will be inside Earth's darkest shadow.

The partial phase will continue until about 12:51 a.m. Friday, while the entire penumbral eclipse concludes around 2:01 a.m.

For the best view, find a location with a clear view toward the southeast around maximum eclipse.

Binoculars or a telescope can make the changing shadow even more impressive.
