The Persistence of the American Work Ethic

It's a fact that Americans are hard workers and also work longer hours than people in most other developed countries. Believe it or not, recent research shows that almost half of all Americans aren't planning on using their paid time off.

We work with a gentleman who, to my knowledge, has never taken longer than 3 days off in a row. And that was when he was sick! He has more paid time off than anyone on the planet, but never takes it. Now that's a hard worker! I totally believe in hard work, but I also think a person needs time off to relax mind, body & soul!

South Dakota: The Hardest Working State

Wallet Hub's new study on the Hardest Working States in America came to an interesting conclusion this year. South Dakota is indeed the hardest-working state in the country.

To make this determination, Wallet Hub compared all 50 states, taking into consideration things like average workweek hours, the number of workers leaving vacation time unused, commute times, and the share of workers with multiple jobs.

The Reality of Multiple Jobs in South Dakota

South Dakota's percentage of workers with multiple jobs is 6.5% - the 11th highest percentage in the country. Our state also has the highest employment rate in the country at 98%. The downside of these statistics is that many South Dakotans can't make a living just working one full-time job.
