Man Arrested After Threatening Sioux City Girls At Lemonade Stand

Boy, just how off its rocker is society right now when someone tries to rob a lemonade stand with a knife.

Imagine being 11 years old, setting up a lemonade stand with your cousin, hoping to make a little money before school starts, and instead having a man threaten you with a knife.

That is exactly what happened recently down in Sioux City, Iowa.

According to Dakota News Now, 11-year-old Skylynn Guy and her cousin, Kendall Barnes, were working at their lemonade stand on Sunday, August 16, when a man allegedly threatened the girls with a knife during an attempted robbery.

Thankfully, the girls were okay. And perhaps the most impressive part of this story is what happened next.

Skylynn and Kendall didn't let the incident stop them.

Just six days later, on Saturday, August 22, the two girls were right back where they started, behind their lemonade stand and ready to serve up some cold, refreshing lemonade.

And it sounds like Sioux City residents showed up for them.

Within the first hour of reopening the stand, Dakota News Now reports that dozens of people had already stopped by to show their support. Some came for a cup of lemonade, while others simply wanted to check on the girls, wish them well, and let them know just how brave they were.

While this incident was certainly scary, the community response turned the story into something much more positive. Instead of allowing one person's actions to ruin their experience, Skylynn and Kendall got to see firsthand how many good people are willing to rally around them.

Word has it the girls are planning to put their lemonade stand proceeds toward getting ready for their first day of middle school, which is right around the corner. So, if you're going to be anywhere near Sioux City in the coming days, this is one lemonade stand worth remembering.

As for the man accused in the robbery attempt, Sioux City Police took him into custody a couple of days after the incident. He is facing a charge of first-degree robbery.

Skylynn and Kendall's story is yet another example of how, when life gives you lemons, you can still make lemonade.
