Please Don’t Kill Anyone in Bismarck Until April 5th!
A couple of years ago, Forbes magazine named Bismarck, North Dakota as one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. Inherent in that kind of positive ranking is the bad news that your crime rate may also rise. It has happened here in Sioux Falls, so we are well aware.
Still, your odds of being the victim of a violent crime in Bismarck, is fairly low. And now with the new directive/request coming from the Bismarck mayor's office, those odds might be even smaller. Mayor Mike Seminary, who has a little more than a year left in his term, is currently the subject of recall petition by some disgruntled Bismarckians, but is forging ahead with a plea for peace.
Mayor Seminary issued a declaration naming March 22 through April 4, 2017 as "A Season for Non-Violence". It is to recognize and promote, "acceptance and respect for diversity through educational programs and activities to discourage all forms of discrimination". The declaration also honors people using non-violence to build relationships in their community.
The takeaway is, if you're planning something nefarious in Bismarck between now and April 4th, the citizens are appealing to your better nature and asking you to please reconsider, forever, if possible, or at the very least, until after April 4th!
