Zoofari Grand Announcements At Great Plains Zoo
It was a big night at the Great Plains Zoo's summer party!
The Great Plains Zoo had some big announcements at the big adults-only party, Zoofari.
First of all, they announced the birth of a brand new baby snow leopard. The cub was born on May 23 to mom Denali and dad Strut. Both are first-time parents, and cub and mom are doing great.

This is the first snow leopard born on the Great Plains Zoo campus in 21 years, so it is extra exciting. We won't know whether it's a boy or a girl cub until a future vet checkup.
Denali has been an attentive, caring mother. She and the cub are spending time bonding in a private den. Guests can see Strut most days, but it will be several weeks before Denali and the cub will be seen by the public.
Another big announcement for the zoo is the reciprocity agreement they have entered into with the world-renowned San Diego Zoo. This is in response to the generosity of Denny Sanford to both zoos.

This program will allow members of the Sioux Falls Zoo and Aquarium to visit the San Diego Zoo at no cost. No other zoo in the country has this kind of agreement with the San Diego Zoo.
Finally, the "We Can't Wait Campaign for Rezoovenation" is in full swing and working its way towards a one-campus home for the Great Plains Zoo, Butterfly House, and Aquarium.
