Join the Fun at the Easter Egg-stravaganza

Spring is about to get a whole lot more “egg-citing” in Sioux Falls as the Great Plains Zoo prepares to host its annual Easter Egg-stravaganza on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., families are invited to hop into a full day of festive fun that blends classic Easter traditions with unforgettable animal encounters. This great event has become a seasonal favorite, offering something for kids of all ages—and plenty for adults to enjoy, too.

At the heart of the celebration are the egg hunts, thoughtfully organized by age group so everyone gets a fair shot at filling their baskets. Younger children can dash for eggs during designated hunt times, while older kids (ages 8 to 12) can take part in a more adventurous, zoo-wide scavenger-style hunt - solving clues and collecting treats along the way. And if you miss your scheduled time? No worries—an all-ages egg hunt wraps up the day in one big, colorful finale.

Interactive Activities and Animal Encounters

But the Egg-stravaganza is much more than just eggs. Guests can enjoy a variety of interactive activities throughout the day, including animal meet-and-greets, educational biofact tables, and story time sessions that bring the animal kingdom to life. Keeper chats—like the popular flamingo talks—offer a behind-the-scenes look at some of the zoo’s most fascinating residents.

Expect plenty of photo opportunities, themed activities, and even a few surprise appearances that make the day feel extra magical. It’s all part of a celebration that mixes Easter fun with the zoo’s mission of education and conservation.
