See The Big Bubble Penguin Party At The Sioux Falls Zoo

Hector the penguin has turned 30, which makes him the oldest penguin at the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls.

He’s also a proud dad to Maya, the very first successful penguin hatch at Great Plains Zoo!

In this video, the Great Plains Zoo posted on Monday, you can see a very shy Hector venturing out of his little cave to enjoy some birthday bubble fun!

The Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls currently has  14 Humboldt penguins. This number includes a new chick named Puddles, who hatched on March 30, 2025.

The zoo has a successful breeding program and has welcomed several chicks over the years as part of the conservation efforts for the vulnerable Humboldt penguin species.
