To find out where people are getting the best healthcare at the best prices, Wallet Hub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia in three major healthcare categories: cost, quality, and outcomes.
Within those categories, they looked at things like the cost of medical and dental visits, average monthly insurance premiums, out-of-pocket costs, quality of hospital systems, the number of physicians and hospital beds per capita, the number of insured adults and children, life expectancies, mortality rates, and much more.
When all the statistics were compared, South Dakota came in with a state ranking of 10th place. Not bad, but Minnesota and Iowa far outranked our state, coming in third and fourth, respectively.
Minnesota, in particular, has the 8th best hospital system in the country, and residents have the 5th highest life expectancy.
