Another Crop of Contenders Step Inside Sioux Falls Food Battle Ring
If you’re a foodie living in the Sioux Empire, January and February are basically a little slice of heaven, literally! If you’re someone who swore this was the year you were finally going to “eat clean,” well, consider this your official notice that the universe has other, cheesier plans in store for you.
Think about it. Just as the calendar flips to January and you’re proudly stocking your fridge with Greek yogurt and optimism, the Downtown Burger Battle kicks the door in like the Kool-Aid Man, except he’s holding a brioche bun that's dripping with aioli. You barely survive that temptation when February rolls around, and the Southside Slamwich challenge shows up, with Sami's stacked higher than your unwashed gym clothes.
And now, I see another heavyweight has stepped into the culinary ring.

The Sioux Empire Pizza Battle is officially back for its second year, and it’s here to laugh directly at your salad ambitions.
According to Dakota News Now, eleven pizza joints across Sioux Falls are participating, each rolling out a specialty pie designed to make you forget every promise you made to yourself at midnight on January 1.
This year’s lineup includes The 18th Amendment, Boss’ Pizza & Chicken, Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar, Charlie’s Pizza House, Dareo’s Pizza on Minnesota Avenue, Invictus Pizza Kitchen, Pizza Cheeks, The Scapegoat, The Thirsty Duck Bar & Grill, Tomacelli’s Pizza & Pasta locations, and Valentino’s.
Each spot has crafted a unique pizza, meaning this isn’t just pepperoni vs. sausage, it’s a full-blown flavor showdown. Your delicious duty is to sample as many pies as possible, then vote for the one that truly speaks to your soul.

The Pizza Battle, just like the Southside Slamwich challenge, runs through February 28, which is just enough time to convince yourself that cheese counts as calcium and, therefore, it's basically a health food.
And if you did attempt a New Year’s diet? Pro tip: hide the scale until March. Maybe April. Possibly Memorial Day. Because February in Sioux Falls isn’t about counting calories, it’s about counting sandwich choices and pizza slices.
