The second phase of Jacobson Plaza is officially open, adding new gathering space, scenic views, and improved walking connections between Falls Park, the Levitt Shell, Jacobson Plaza, and the Steel District.

One of the biggest additions is a large, level lawn between the Levitt Shell and Jacobson Plaza. The new green space will provide room for recreation, community gatherings, and events throughout the year, giving visitors another place to spread out, relax, and enjoy everything downtown has to offer.
Celebrate the Holidays in a New Plaza Space
There's also a new plaza with built-in lighting and electrical infrastructure. That space is expected to become the permanent home of Sioux Falls' large Christmas tree, along with holiday celebrations and other community events. Just imagine having another beautiful spot to enjoy the holiday season!

If you're looking for a place to take in the scenery, the project has something for you, too. A new overlook offers views of the upper falls and the Big Sioux River, while accessible pathways and additional seating make the area easier for visitors to explore and enjoy.
Sioux Falls Mayor Christine Erickson said the project has helped transform a former scrap yard into a vibrant destination where residents and visitors can gather, connect, and make memories.
Enhancing Connectivity in Downtown Sioux Falls
And the improvements aren't just about adding more space. They're also about making it easier to get from one popular downtown destination to another, creating a more connected experience for people exploring the area.

According to Andy Patterson, CEO of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, the donors wanted to connect Jacobson Plaza with other amenities near Falls Park and downtown.
