Parkston Rallies For A Chance At A National Music Grant
Dakota News Now is reporting that Parkston is in the running for a national grant from the Levitt Foundation, one of just 100 communities across the country still competing.
The town hopes to use the funding to expand its summer concert series, which has become a popular tradition over the past five years.

The series began as a way to bring live music and community spirit to town, with concerts every Thursday night at the local amphitheater. This year featured the biggest lineup yet, and organizers say they’re ready to take the next step.
“This started as a memory-building place,” said Bill Maxwell, president of the Parkston Commercial Club. “We’ve had so many great times, and the goal is to keep improving year after year.”
If chosen through popular vote, Parkston could receive up to $28,000 annually for three years. That support, Maxwell said, would help turn the concerts into a regional attraction.

To apply, the Commercial Club partnered with Avera St. Benedict Health Center. Its president, Lindsay Weber, praised the effort as an example of how rural communities thrive through innovation and teamwork.
Organizers are asking South Dakotans statewide to cast their votes. “We’re the only venue in South Dakota applying,” Maxwell said. “Let’s band together and show what rural communities can do.”
Voting runs September 5–15. To support Parkston, text “PARKSTON” to 877-409-5525 or vote online.
