Ask any pet owner about one of their great fears regarding their four-footed friends, and the answer would be having a pet run away or get lost. It can be one of the most heartbreaking experiences a person can have.

That is why the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society and Schulte Subaru have teamed up for a free microchipping clinic at the dealership on South Minnesota Avenue from 1 to 3 PM on Sunday, October 19.

Dakota News Now is reporting that participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and enter on the south side of the parking lot.

Microchipping your pet is one of the most effective ways to ensure they can be identified and returned home if they ever get lost. A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, that’s implanted under your pet’s skin—usually between the shoulder blades. Each chip contains a unique identification number that links to your contact information in a secure database.

Unlike collars or ID tags, which can fall off or become unreadable, a microchip provides permanent identification that lasts your pet’s lifetime. Veterinarians, animal shelters, and rescue groups routinely scan lost pets for microchips, making it much easier to reunite them with their families.

Microchipping also helps reduce the number of stray animals in shelters and can even be used to prove ownership in cases of theft or disputes. It’s a quick, safe, and affordable procedure that can make a lifelong difference for your pet’s safety.

Keeping your registration information up to date is just as important as getting the chip implanted. Whether you move, change your phone number, or update your email address, make sure your pet’s microchip details stay current—because that little chip could be the key to bringing your furry friend back home.
