Several Sioux Falls Streets Closing Thursday And Friday For Repairs

Now that it's summertime again in Sioux Falls, two things are almost guaranteed: road construction and everyone trying to get somewhere at the exact same time.

Drivers will want to keep that in mind as several new road construction projects are hopping onto the on-ramp in Sioux Falls today and Friday, meaning commuters should plan for a few extra minutes behind the wheel and maybe a little extra patience.

According to Dakota News Now, here are the latest traffic trouble spots starting today and Friday that you'll want to know about before heading out.

The outside eastbound lane of West 12th Street between Sertoma Avenue and La Mesa Drive will be closed starting at 9:00 AM on Thursday, July 9, as city crews replace a fire hydrant. Thankfully, this is expected to be a one-day project, with traffic returning to normal by the end of the day on Thursday.

Another short-term closure is happening on North West Avenue, where the northbound lanes between Eighth Street and Ninth Street are closed. Drivers heading north are being detoured onto North Lake Avenue while work is completed. That project is also expected to wrap up by the end of the day Thursday.

If your normal route takes you through the busy 57th Street corridor on Sioux Falls south side, you'll want to make a mental note. The right-turn lane from South Oxbow Avenue onto West 57th Street is closed Thursday while crews complete maintenance work. The good news? Drivers can still make westbound turns onto 57th Street, so the inconvenience should be fairly limited.

Beginning Friday, July 10, another project gets underway on South Western Avenue. The outside southbound lane between 49th Street and 50th Street will be closed for storm drainage repairs. One southbound lane will remain open, but motorists should expect slower traffic through the area. This project is expected to last about one week.

Also on Friday, West Blackhawk Street will be closed between Minnesota Avenue and A Avenue while utility crews complete infrastructure work. Drivers are encouraged to use Algonquin Street or Russell Street as alternate routes until the project wraps up later that day.
