Prairie Village Near Madison Is Hosting A Transportation Trifecta This July
Planes, trains, and automobiles are coming to Prairie Village near Madison, South Dakota later this month.
But let's clear something up right away: you won't find Neal Page and Del Griffith wandering around Prairie Village. What you can expect to see are a bunch of vintage trains, gleaming classic cars, and airplanes.
If you and the family are looking for a fun day trip from Sioux Falls or anywhere in the Sioux Empire, Historic Prairie Village near Madison has an event that's covering just about every mode of transportation.

On Saturday, July 25, Prairie Village is rolling out its brand-new "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" event, and yes, the name is a nod to the classic Steve Martin and John Candy comedy. While the Hollywood stars won't be making an appearance, visitors can expect plenty of horsepower, locomotives, and aircraft, which should be equally entertaining.
According to Dakota News Now, this first-of-its-kind event combines several longtime Prairie Village favorites into one big celebration. Instead of hosting separate Railroad Days and Classic Car Day events, as they've done for nearly 30 years, organizers decided to put everything under one roof... or, more accurately, under one big South Dakota sky.
Prairie Village General Manager Faron Wahl told Dakota News Now the new format also welcomes Riggins Flight Service of Madison, which will offer aircraft displays, flyovers, and educational seminars covering the basics of aviation. Ever wondered what it takes to earn your pilot's license? You'll have the chance to find out that day.
Train lovers won't leave disappointed, either. Visitors can get an up-close look at Prairie Village's impressive collection of historic railroad equipment and enjoy rides throughout the day on the trains, doodlebug, and motorcars.
Meanwhile, Main Street inside the village will be lined with beautifully restored classic cars during the popular Show & Shine. Whether you're a die-hard gearhead or just appreciate shiny chrome and vintage-style vehicles, there will be plenty to admire.
This new event is being billed as the "Trifecta of Transportation."
In addition to all of the planes, trains, and autos that day, Prairie Village will also have plenty of other attractions to explore. Between the museums, historic buildings, demonstrations, and family-friendly activities spread across the grounds, there's going to be enough to keep visitors busy all day long.
The event runs from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is just $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 to 12.
