It's the most wonderful time of the year, although it doesn't look like it this year. It's beginning to look like we're in for a brown Christmas, with no snow in sight any time soon. Sorry white Christmas fans!

One thing is for certain, you can't turn on the TV this time of year without tripping over a Christmas show. Several Christmas-themed classics are in high rotation right now on channels like AMC and others.

There are still plenty of ho, ho, ho days to go before Santa and his reindeer come rolling into town. So, if you need a little extra something to help get you into the Christmas spirit since Ma Nature isn't feeling it this year, you might consider checking out South Dakota's two favorite Christmas flicks.

Pretty much everyone has their favorite go-to Christmas movies, and according to the elves at Preply.com these two movies seem to make the average South Dakotan merry and bright most often during the holiday season.

Preply conducted a survey of America's favorite Christmas movies. They analyzed search trends for keywords related to 115 of the highest-rated and highest-grossing holiday movies of all time, from sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Box Office Mojo. Then, they scored how popular the top 25 Christmas movies they found were in each state.

They discovered that America has three favorite holiday flicks they believe are the best of the best! Those movies are, Home Alone, The (2018) version of the Grinch, Elf, Edward Scissorhands, and Happiest Season.

Here in South Dakota, we supposedly have two Christmas movies that get our jingle bells jangling, in a good way. The old classic, "Miracle on 34st Street" with Maureen O' Hara and Edmund Gwenn, and the (2018) movie "The Christmas Chronicles" starring Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.

There is no disputing those movies are two of the best a person can watch from a rather extensive Christmas catalog of holiday flicks available this time of the year.

However, if I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised that National Lampoon's "Christmas Vacation" didn't make South Dakota's top 2 favorites list.

In my opinion, that is without a doubt the creme de la creme of Christmas movie classics. One hour and 37 minutes of non-stop hilarious quotes from Clark W Griswold!

If there is one person who knows the true meaning of Christmas, it's gotta be Clark.

Gris has provided all of us with so many words to live by as we celebrate the most enduring traditions of the season that are best enjoyed in the warm embrace of kith and kin.

You know things like, "Eddie, can I refill your egg nog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out in the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?" Or, perhaps this memorable classic, "What are you looking at Clark...Oh, the silent majesty of a winter's morn; the clean, cool chill of the holiday air; and an assh*le in his bathrobe, emptying a chemical toilet into my sewer."

So this year as your home begins to fill up with holiday travelers and you begin to feel the stress of the Christmas season set in,  just remember the sound advice that Clark Jr. sought out from Clark Sr. in the movie when he asked his father how he got through all their holiday messes, Clark Sr. left him with this sage wisdom, "I had a lot of help from Jack Daniels."

Merry Christmas everyone!
