Sioux Falls Great Bear Turns 60 And It’s Getting Its Own Movie!

Sioux Falls’ Great Bear Ski Valley is celebrating a pretty big birthday, and it’s bringing a movie along for the party.

Great Bear will premiere “More Than a Hill: 60 Years of Great Bear” November 9–10 at the Sioux Falls State Theatre.

The documentary celebrates six decades of skiing, snow, outdoor adventures and the people who have made Great Bear part of the Sioux Falls community.

The film was created by Sioux Falls native Colter Elkin and looks back at Great Bear’s history, from its beginnings as a local ski hill in 1966 to its evolution into a year-round recreation destination.

And if you’ve ever spent time at Great Bear, there’s a good chance you’ll recognize some of the stories.

The documentary features memories from people who learned to ski there, worked there, hiked the trails, brought their kids there or simply spent countless winter days trying not to fall down the hill.
