South Dakota Summer Forecast Calls for Umbrellas and Air Conditioning
Bright sunshine, warm days, barbecuing, camping- all make us think of even warmer days ahead. It's hard not to think of summer when temps start climbing into those 70s and even 80s.
The summer solstice arrives on Thursday, June 20, at 3:51 PM (CDT). This is the earliest start to summer in 128 years.
But what does the all-knowing Farmer's Almanac think summer will bring us?
Not surprisingly, some very hot days. In fact, it is predicting one of the hottest summers the U.S. has ever had. They are also indicating that our area (along with most of the central U.S.) has a good chance for thunderstorms during June. (Now there's a surprise, huh?)
However, their Father's Day (June 16) forecast for South Dakota is hot and dry.
The Fourth of July weekend looks equally good, with hot temps and dry conditions.
August and September look to be the months with the most moisture coming our way, according to the Almanac.
