Matador Network’s new streaming series, Unexpected South Dakota, takes viewers on an exciting journey through our state with explorer and wildlife biologist Forrest Galante. You might know him from shows on Animal Planet and Discovery during Shark Week.

The three-episode series, produced in collaboration with Travel South Dakota and Jeep, is now available to watch online and on Roku TV.

Each short episode is about eight minutes long and highlights a different part of South Dakota.

  • In Episode 1, Galante meets chef Marcela Salas of BibiSol in downtown Sioux Falls. She blends old traditions with new flavors, showing how food connects people to their roots and the land.
  • Episode 2 takes viewers to the Black Hills and Spearfish Canyon, where Galante joins fishing guide Hans Stephenson to talk about nature, conservation, and enjoying the outdoors responsibly.
  • Episode 3 features Lakota horseman Cat Clifford and his family, sharing horseback riding, calf roping, and storytelling that reflect Native traditions.
