In my opinion, there are plenty of romantic places around South Dakota where people can spend a memorable Valentine's Day. But the authors of this particular study didn't ask me.

This study came from luxury travel advisors at The Resorts Collection, and they compiled this information by analyzing TripAdvisor reviews to determine which states are the most and least romantic.

They searched for the word "romantic" and measured how often it was mentioned in reviews of restaurants, hotels, landmarks, nature, and parks to compile their lists.

When they were done with their research, these states came out on top:

  • Rhode Island - They refer to this state as the capital of romance because it got so many "romantic" mentions.
  • Texas - Received high marks for all of its romantic restaurants.
  • Washington - It was noted as having a lot of natural wonders that are perfect proposal spots.
  • New York - Has iconic cityscapes and restaurants.
  • Ohio - Supposedly has a lot of landmarks and parks perfect for romance.

Now to the not-so-romantic states:

  • Kentucky
  • Arizona
  • South Dakota
  • Wyoming
  • Montana

As I said before, this study neglects taking a closer look at South Dakota. We have plenty of romantic places and spaces. Parks, national landmarks, wonderful restaurants, and hotels, both east and west river. But that's just my take on the romance situation in our state. And hey, at least were not Kentucky!
