According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, there were some one-day snowfall records set for January 3 in Sioux Falls and Mitchell.
- Sioux Falls: 7.5" of snow. The previous record was 6.0" in 1897
- Mitchell: 17.2" of snow. The previous record was 6.0 in 1949.
