While violent crime statistics might be down in Sioux Falls at the moment, it doesn't mean they are nonexistent.

Case in point, an aggravated assault that happened to a Sioux Falls woman on Monday night.

21-year-old Adam Ismail was arrested on Wednesday (October 2) and charged with first-degree robbery, aggravated assault, and intentional damage to property.

According to Dakota News Now, the incident took place around 8:15 PM on (September 30) on the 700 block of South Tanglewood Ave. The report states that a 21-year-old woman was waiting in her car for a friend to show up when Ismail came up and pointed a gun at her. He immediately tossed her car keys, then took her cell phone and broke it. After that, he stole her wallet which had personal documents and money inside, and then took off on foot. He did not attempt to steal the victim's car.

Once the victim's friend arrived they called authorities.

Police pulled over the suspect's car on Tuesday afternoon near Benson Road and Galaxy Lane. Dakota News Now reports that during a search, they found items stolen from the victim's car, along with a handgun.

Sioux Falls Public Information Officer Sam Clemens told Dakota News Now there was no connection between the victim and the suspect. Fortunately, police were able to locate the suspect's vehicle thanks to surveillance video from the neighborhood.

Police say the suspect does not live in the area where the robbery took place.
