Sioux Falls in home to one of the most decorated war ships in the country.

Seventy-five years ago, a World War Two battleship was named South Dakota, and that occasion will be celebrated in Sioux Falls Saturday, June 11, 2016.

The USS South Dakota, from the South Pacific to engagements in the North Atlantic, received 13 battle stars for her World War II service.

At the celebration of battleship South Dakota, Lieutenant Governor Matt Michels will be master of ceremonies, and Navy Vice Admiral Lyle Bien will be the keynote speaker. Some former sailors who served in the battleship are expected to attend.

The public is invited to attend the 75th anniversary celebration from 10:00 am-12:00 pm Saturday at Battleship South Dakota Memorial on Twelfth Street and Kiwanis Avenue in Sioux Falls.
