A Sioux Falls Outdoor Favorite Just Got Even Better!
Celebrating Outdoor Education: The Birth of the Outdoor Campus
A lot of interesting things happened in 1997: NASA's Mars Pathfinder spacecraft landed on Mars, Titanic premiered in movie theaters, Netflix was founded as a DVD-by-mail rental company, the first Harry Potter book was published, and a major blizzard hit Sioux Falls from January 9 through 11.
One other wonderful thing became a part of the Sioux Falls landscape that same year -- The South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Outdoor Campus. Since that time, over half a million people have participated in its free outdoor education programming.

That has been the mission and purpose of the Outdoor Campus since the beginning. They provide hands-on experiences in hunting, fishing, outdoor skills, and conservation science. Free classes are held throughout the year for kids, adults, and families. There are indoor exhibits, an outdoor play area, and over 2 miles of trails for walking and cross-country skiing too.
