Sioux Falls Luminary Lane Will Be Glowing This Weekend

No one is quite sure when the tradition began, but according to a story from Dakota News Now last year, Luminary Lane dates back to the 1960s, and a pastor from First Baptist Church who came up with the idea.

Other stories have the tradition dating all the way back to 1948. In any case, the luminaries are a way of welcoming the birth of Christ for Christmas.

All anyone knows for sure is that it is an awesome Sioux Falls event that occurs every year at Christmastime in the Parkridge neighborhood for one night only.

This year, the one night when you can participate in this wonderful celebration is Sunday, December 22nd from 5 to 10 PM. The location is Glendale Avenue to Park Avenue and 22nd Street to 26th Street.

What will you see as you walk or drive through this beautiful neighborhood decoration? You'll see the hard work of the residents in the area keeping up this holiday tradition with rows and rows of small brown and white bags shimmering with the light from votive candles.

The event adds a warm glow to the holiday season and if you're going to go, remember to dim your lights if you're driving through.
