I shipped off my final box of stuff to my family in Montana yesterday (Monday, Dec. 15). When the nice gentleman asked me what was in the box and I told him there were a lot of paper plates, napkins, and gift bags, he gave me a somewhat wry smile.

I said that I knew they had those things in Montana, too, but they wouldn't be the same. He continued to give me that kind smile that let me know I was more than likely a big dope. Especially when he gave me the price total for my box of "stuff".

Nevertheless, they'll be getting the box before Christmas. Shipping deadlines are looming large this week across the country.

UPS deadlines for regular ground service, according to Dakota News Now, mean you need to have everything into them by Thursday, December 18. After that, you'll be talking about much more expensive shipping.

If you plan to mail your items through the postal service (In the lower 48 states) and want to use the USPS Ground Advantage service (2-5 business days), your last day is Wednesday, December 17.

If you want to use First Class Mail (1 to 5 business days), the last day is also Wednesday, December 17. The deadline is Thursday for Priority Mail Service delivery and this Saturday for Priority Mail Express.

So the holiday shipping rush is on!
