The minute cooler weather hits our area, I start thinking cozy beverages. That means I stock up on a pantry full of flavored teas, apple cider mixes, and of course, hot cocoa. But what about the rest of the country? Is it also getting into the holiday beverage mode?

According to the new report published in Food and Wine, all across America, people are getting into the holiday spirit by choosing their favorite beverages. The way this study was determined was through Google searches.

Hot chocolate was the most searched for holiday beverage, followed by apple cider, and (believe it or not) espresso martinis. In the South, they searched for a more diverse group of holiday beverages. Texas goes for Bellinis, Arizona mimosas, and in Florida and California, the chosen holiday beverage is a Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso.

In South Dakota and Iowa, we chose a traditional holiday hot beverage, and that was the classic hot cocoa. Minnesotans were the only group in the country that searched the most for a Hot Toddy. So what exactly is a hot toddy? I went looking for a recipe, and this is what I found.

It is a hot beverage, quite often used as a cold remedy, that is made with a spirit like whisky, bourbon, or rum. You mix this with hot water or tea, a sweetener like sugar, honey, or maple syrup, add a squeeze of lemon, then add cloves or cinnamon sticks for a bit of spice, and there you have your hot toddy.
