Winter is just getting started, and Great Bear Ski Valley is gearing up for a snowy, fun-filled season in Sioux Falls. As the popular outdoor destination prepares for more cold-weather adventures, there are a few important updates for visitors planning their next trip.

Dakota News Now is reporting that Great Bear will be closed on Sunday, December 14, 2025, so crews can focus on making fresh snow and ensuring top-quality conditions across the park. The beginner area conveyor lift is temporarily down for repairs, but the team expects it to be back up and running by early next week—possibly as soon as Saturday, December 13.

Even better news for winter enthusiasts: Great Bear plans to open all ski runs and the Kirby Family Tubing Park next week, giving families and thrill-seekers plenty of ways to enjoy the slopes. I still remember my first visit to the tubing hill, it was equal parts thrill and chill, and an absolute blast!

As the holidays approach, the park will roll out its extended hours starting December 20, 2025, continuing through January 4, 2026. And for those looking to ring in the new year with excitement, New Year’s Eve at Great Bear will feature late-night skiing and tubing, special rates, and a dazzling fireworks show at midnight.

For the most current updates, visit Great Bear Recreation Park's website or call 605-367-4309 before heading out for your next snowy adventure.
