
Road Work Ahead: Sioux Falls Projects Impacting Traffic
If the weather hasn't clued you in, the number of Sioux Falls street construction projects will. Summer is definitely here. These are just a few of the projects that are currently going on or coming up.
Lane Closures - 69th Street
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, lane closures will be in place on West 69th Street from Louise Avenue to just west of Landau Circle to allow the contractor to mill and overlay the roadway. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction throughout the project. As paving operations progress through intersections, motorists should expect delays.
Weather permitting, the overlay is expected to be completed by Friday, June 26, 2026, with pavement markings to follow.

Veteran's Parkway Left Turn Restrictions
Beginning on Monday, June 15, 2026, no left turns will be allowed at the intersection of East 41st Street and Veterans Parkway between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. until Wednesday, June 17, 2026, to allow crews to complete concrete pavement repairs in the center of the intersection. One lane of through traffic will be maintained at all times. Motorists wishing to turn left at this intersection should proceed to the next available intersection.
Construction activities along Veterans Parkway between 26th Street and 41st Street will be ongoing through July.
Lane Closures - 57th Street
Beginning on Monday, June 15, 2026, the eastbound lanes of West 57th Street will be closed from Ellis Road to Marion Road to allow crews to begin crack sealing. Once repairs are completed, the lane closures will be shifted to the westbound lanes of West 57th Street.
One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times. Access to businesses, homes, and side streets will be maintained.
Work is anticipated to be completed by mid-June.
Lane Closures - 41st Street
Beginning on Monday, June 15, 2026, the eastbound lanes of West 41st Street at the bridge over the Big Sioux River near O’Gorman High School will be closed to allow crews to begin bridge repairs. Once repairs are completed, we will be shifting the lane closures to the westbound lanes of West 41st Street.
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times.
Work is anticipated to be completed in late June.
Lane Closures - Sycamore Avenue
Beginning on Monday, June 15, 2026, the southbound lanes of South Sycamore Avenue will be closed from 57th Street to 69th Street to allow crews to begin crack sealing. Once repairs are completed, we will be shifting the lane closures to the northbound lanes of South Sycamore Avenue.
One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times. Access to businesses, homes, and side streets will be maintained.
Work is anticipated to be completed by mid-June.
Sidewalk Closure - Main Avenue
Beginning on Monday, June 15, 2026, the sidewalk along the west side of South Main Avenue will be closed between 11th Street and 12th Street to allow crews to perform stair repairs at the Washington Pavilion. Pedestrians will be detoured around the work zone. Pedestrians will be able to access the east entrance of the Washington Pavilion from 11th Street.
Weather permitting, this work is expected to be completed in approximately one week.
Sidewalk Closures - 57th Street
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, the north sidewalk along East 57th Street will be closed between Bahnson Avenue and Sycamore Avenue. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the south sidewalk.
Backhaus Underground and Excavating will be connecting a sewer line. This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by the end of the day.

Street Closure - Russell Street
Beginning on Tuesday evening, June 16, 2026, the intersection of West Russell Street and Louise Avenue/Westport Avenue will be closed nightly to allow crews to perform asphalt paving work. Louise Avenue and Westport Avenue will be closed daily at Russell Street from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Russell Street will be closed daily between Louise Avenue and Kiwanis Avenue from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
Motorists should use I-29 as an alternate route for Louise Avenue and Westport Avenue. Russell Street traffic will be detoured on Kiwanis Avenue, Madison Street, and I-29.
These nighttime closures are expected to be in place daily until 6:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026.
As always, the street department is asking all of us to drive with caution, reduce our speeds, and keep our heads in the game as we are driving around Sioux Falls.
