Minneapolis Ranks High For Affordable Winter Travel Options

It must be a case of great minds coming to the same conclusion, or something like that. Both Wallet Hub and Travel & Leisure have chosen Minneapolis as one of their "best of" cities. But for somewhat different reasons.

Wallet Hub was simply comparing Best Winter Holiday Destinations for this year. Travel & Leisure was looking for the Ten Cheapest Places to travel for Thanksgiving this year. Apparently, Minneapolis filled the bill in both cases.

Wallet Hub only considered 70 of the largest metro areas for this most recent study, so Sioux Falls wasn't even included. But they grouped those 70 cities in terms of warm and cold destinations, and also included two weeks of flight data, safety indicators, and weather predictions.

The Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington metro area came in 16th overall in Wallet Hub's study, although it got first place in the Travel Costs and Hassles category. So overall, it did well in this study.

Travel & Leisure's study was not only interested in the cost of travel to a city, but also in the other amenities that made a city attractive for its target holiday, Thanksgiving. Minneapolis was their number one choice.

Travel & Leisure advised that Thanksgiving is one of the best times to travel to avoid a lot of holiday headaches. They say that the four-day weekend (for some people) is the perfect time to sneak in a trip before travel costs go up even higher in December.

And they mentioned lots of what people love going to Minneapolis for - the museums, the Mall of America, ice skating, and lots of highly-rated restaurants and nightlife places to choose from.
