If you're traveling by car this Memorial Day weekend, here's a bit of good news: gas prices are actually quite reasonable.

The start of the summer tourist season officially begins this weekend, and your pain at the pump should be fairly minimal.

Dakota News Now reports that the average price of gas in South Dakota has been dropping ahead of Memorial Day weekend. It's down four cents a gallon on average statewide. The average price for a gallon of gas in South Dakota right now is $2.93. That's the lowest it's been since 2021.

According to Dakota News Now, gas prices can be as high as $5.00 a gallon in some of those states.

If you're vacationing by car this holiday weekend, experts say the best time to be on the road is every day before noon. This Saturday and Sunday are when you can expect to see the least amount of traffic on our nation's roads and highways.

Here's another tip for stress-free travel:

Consider calling 511 before you leave to get the latest road conditions. You'll be able to get a quick update on construction zones and detours.

The only thing worse than getting bent over at the pump is getting bogged down in a slow-moving construction zone for several miles.

Safe travels, everyone!
