A visit to South Dakota four years ago has prompted an Italian restaurant from California to add a location in the Mount Rushmore State.

On its Facebook page, family-owned Adamo's Kitchen in Sacramento has announced plans to expand to Mitchell in 2025.

According to a 2022 profile in Edible Sacramento, the original location was opened in California's capital city in 2014 by John Adamo and his daughter, Chiara, despite neither having any experience running a restaurant.

When Adamo’s original chef left in 2016, Polo, John's son, and Chiara's brother, stepped in to take over in the kitchen.

When asked on Facebook why they decided to add a location in South Dakota's sixth-largest city, the restaurant responded:

'Mitchell's sense of community and potential grabbed our attention when we visited in 2020. We've been renovating this building for the past several years.'

Adamo's menu features a number of classic Italian entrees like Carbonara, Picatta, Ravioli, Primavera, Alfredo, and Bolognese, as well as appetizers, desserts, and a wine list.

Adamo's will operate out of the old Western Bank Building at 219 North Main Street.

According to the City of Mitchell's website, the building dates back to 1907 when the bank shared the ground floor with a music store and shoe store. J.C. Penney's moved in after the bank defaulted in 1924.

After Penney's left in 1960 for a new location, White Drug, and later Saterlie Drug, moved in. The upper three floors have housed lawyers, doctors, and dentists as well as various other offices over the years, but have sat empty since the 1970s.
