South Dakota Braces For Dangerous Heat & Big Storms This Week
Is it just me or does it feel warmer than normal across Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota? Well for anyone in the Sioux Empire, the heat is not cooling down anytime soon.
It's already been an active weather season across South Dakota. Now for this week, the temperatures are rising and we have potential for more severe weather as early as Tuesday.

Our weather friends at Severe Studios and the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has been on top of the weather activity. Right now for Monday (today), parts of the Sioux Empire will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Usually in June we're between mid-70s to low-80s. So yes...it's hot!

The good news? We'll see a cool-down later this week. Here are what the temperatures around Sioux Falls looks like:
- Monday: 88 for the high with a low of 68
- Tuesday: 93 for the high with a low of 68
- Wednesday: 93 for the high and 60 for the low
- Thursday: 81 for the high and 62 for the low
- Friday: 85 for the high and 59 for the low
Keep in mind...the hottest days will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. The humidity isn't helping!
What About Severe Weather for the Sioux Empire? Any Storms Coming?
According to Shawn Cable from Severe Studios, we do have "severe weather potential Tuesday and Wednesday." It could be serious too. Buckle up 605, looks like we're in for another roller coaster again.
Here's the breakdown from Shawn Cable:
TUESDAY:The greatest risk currently appears to be across eastern South Dakota, northeastern South Dakota and northwest Minnesota during the afternoon, evening and overnight hours. Large hail and damaging wind appear to be the primary threats, although an isolated tornado or two will also be possible. Some storms could become quite intense, with very large hail and wind gusts over 70 mph possible.
WEDNESDAY: The severe weather threat is expected to shift east into much of Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. At this point, Wednesday appears to have the potential to be the more active day for much of Minnesota and Iowa. Large hail and damaging wind appear to be the primary concerns, though a few tornadoes will also be possible with the strongest storms.
You should be prepared for any type of weather this week in the 605. And remember to stay hydrated in the heat if you're outside!
