What South Dakota License Plates Made Santa’s Naughty List?
We’re all trying extra hard this time of year to stay off the naughty list. After all, it’s probably not wise to irritate the big guy in red when it's this close to Christmas.
But if your vehicle is rocking a vanity license plate, you might want to check it twice to see if you're being naughty or nice, because some of the plates cruising South Dakota roads could land you squarely on Santa’s S#!T list and the South Dakota Department of Motor Vehicles’ “absolutely not” list.
There’s no question that we South Dakotans are a creative bunch when it comes to personalized plates. Unfortunately, creativity doesn’t always equal approval. According to an article in the Dakota Scout, the South Dakota Motor Vehicle Division has rejected more than 30 percent of vanity plate requests submitted over the past five years.

In just the last three years alone, roughly 2,326 personalized plate applications were denied. The reasons range from plates being hard to read, already in use, or perhaps most commonly, being deemed too offensive or not exactly aligned with the state’s decency standards.
And what exactly counts as “too much creativity”?
Among the more eyebrow-raising plate requests spotted or attempted are BIGTITS, BIGDIX, WETDRM, PORNHUB, BOOBIES, and the subtle charmer OMW2FYB (“On My Way To F*** You, Buddy”). Truly poetic stuff.
Even bodily urgency wasn’t spared from scrutiny. Someone tried to roll with GOT2PEE, but the DMV shut that one down before it could hit a highway rest stop.

All of this is just a small sampling of the questionable license plate imagination roaming, or trying to roam the streets and highways in the Rushmore State.
So this holiday season, remember: if your vanity plate needs an explanation, a decoder ring, and a disclaimer, Santa isn’t the only one judging you; there's a good chance the South Dakota DMV is also probably not grooving on the personalized plate you're attempting to attach to your one-horse sleigh.
