Could Falls Park in Sioux Falls Be Getting A Stunning New Addition Soon?
Is it possible to make one of Sioux Falls’ most iconic destinations even better? That’s the question city leaders may soon answer as a proposed land donation could expand and enhance Falls Park, making the crown jewel of the Sioux Empire even more beautiful.
Pigeon 605 is reporting that the Sioux Falls City Council is expected to review a unique offer during its May 4 meeting: a 1.3-acre land donation just south of Falls Park. The property, valued at around $1 million, is being offered by local business owners Greg and Sheri Carmon of Midwest Railcar Repair.

Their vision? To see the land incorporated into the ongoing Falls Park master plan and open up even more possibilities for residents and visitors of the Sioux Empire.
Falls Park already draws thousands each year with its stunning views of the Big Sioux River cascading over pink quartzite formations. But the city has been actively working to reimagine and expand the area. Plans are already in place to integrate the nearby city-owned quarry into the park’s footprint, creating even more space for recreation, exploration, and scenic overlooks.
The Carmons’ proposed addition could take things a step further. According to Pigeon 605, early concepts for the space include native plant landscaping, exposed quartzite features that tie into the park’s natural beauty, and even a cantilevered boardwalk with an overlook above a pond. There’s also discussion of improved fishing access and the possibility of a welcome center or activity hub tied to the quarry development
If approved, the new space would be named the Carmon Family Glen at Falls Park.
For Sioux Falls residents who already enjoy walking trails, selfies, and photo ops, along with all the community events at Falls Park, this proposal could mean even more reasons to visit. And for tourists discovering Sioux Falls for the first time, it could further elevate the park’s reputation as one of the must-see destinations while visiting South Dakota.
