The Sioux Falls Recreation Trail stretches more than 45 miles and is shared by walkers, runners, cyclists, and e-bike riders.

Because the trail is multi-use, the City of Sioux Falls enforces a strict 15 mph speed limit for all riders.

Riders should stay to the right, pass on the left, and always give an audible warning before passing pedestrians or slower cyclists.

Not every e-bike is allowed on the trail. Currently, Class I and Class II e-bikes are permitted.

Class I bikes provide pedal-assist power only, while Class II bikes can also use a throttle.

However, Class III e-bikes, electric scooters, one-wheels, and fully motorized bikes are prohibited because of higher speeds and safety concerns.

The city also recommends wearing a helmet, using lights during low visibility, and slowing down in crowded areas.

Riders should never block the trail when stopping and should always yield to pedestrians at crossings.

As e-bikes continue to grow in popularity across Sioux Falls, following these trail rules helps ensure the Recreation Trail remains safe and enjoyable for everyone.
