Hy-Vee's Back-to-School Community Food Drive

Hy-Vee is hoping to make sure more local families have one less thing to worry about with a Back-to-School Community Food Drive happening at all Hy-Vee stores through Sunday, August 23.

And this isn't just a general food drive. Each Hy-Vee store has chosen a local food pantry or food bank to receive the donations, meaning the help stays close to home and goes directly into the community.

There are several easy ways to help.

You can round up your purchase at the checkout, purchase a $5 or $10 food bag filled with actual groceries to donate, make a donation when shopping online, or bring your own nonperishable food donations to the collection barrels inside the store.

A Dollar-for-Dollar Match: Doubling Your Impact

There's another pretty big incentive to give, too. Hy-Vee will match customer monetary donations dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000.

With about one in five children across the country facing food insecurity, the need doesn't magically disappear when the school year begins. In fact, for many families, back-to-school season can put even more pressure on already-stretched household budgets.

So while you're picking up those last-minute school supplies or groceries this week, consider grabbing a $5 food bag or rounding up your bill.

Five dollars might not seem like much, but when neighbors come together, those small donations can add up to something that makes a very big difference. Because every child deserves to start the school year ready to learn - and not worrying about where their next meal is coming from.
