Check Out Mitchell Olson’s Recipe for Amazing ‘Christmas Crack’!
It's amazing how you can take saltine crackers, butter, brown sugar, and chocolate and turn it into an absolutely addictive holiday treat!
Mitchell Olson visits the Ben & Patty Show every Friday and we quite often have a "Taste Test" segment where we'll try an interesting, sometimes weird, often exotic food item.
In the past, we've tried Macaroni & Cheese gummies that tasted more like plastic than mac & cheese. We've had Twix bars that actually did taste like chocolate-covered donuts and some awful Tamarind candy that was a lot like licking a lizard!
But it's kind of rare when we actually have something that everybody raves about and that is what happened when Mitchell brought in his "Christmas Crack". It is sweet and salty, buttery and caramelly all at once, and positively addictive. It truly was hard to stop at one piece.
You're definitely going to want to try the recipe. So here it is:
Mitchell Olson's Christmas Crack
Ingredients:
- Saltine crackers
- 2 sticks of butter
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Chocolate chips
- Nuts
Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray with Pam or other vegetable oil spray. Line cookie sheet with saltine crackers
Combine butter, sugar, and vanilla and bring to a boil on the stove. Boil for about 1 minute, then pour mixture over saltines.
Put the pan in a 400-degree oven for about 3 minutes, then remove from the oven and cover with chocolate chips (I'm thinking about a cup would work. Mitchell didn't specify. And you can see he threw on some vanilla chips too). Put the pan back in the oven for another 3 minutes, then remove and spread out the chocolate.
Sprinkle with nuts, holiday sprinkles, or other goodies like M&Ms, or toffee bits and put in the fridge to harden.
After a couple of hours, remove from fridge and break into pieces.
**Most importantly - -try not to eat it all yourself!
