As you know, the cost of just about everything these days is soaring!

Especially food prices. They are the worst! It's like a horror movie standing in the checkout line at the grocery store anymore waiting to get the final tally on your grocery shopping experience.

I went grocery shopping over the weekend and grabbed one of those smaller carts because it's just my wife and me, we have no kids, and the final bill was....wait for it...over $145.00! I should quit my bitching, the woman in front of me had a grocery bill of over $280.00! That is CRAZY!!!

What's sad, is when you get home and start unpacking all the stuff, you think to yourself, this little bit, was over $145.00!

Inflation is gripping the nation, and there's no getting around it.

The city of Sioux Falls is blessed to have a number of very good grocery stores, and according to the folks at U.S. News and World Report, we are home right now to two of the cheapest grocery stores in the nation.

Aldi and Costco.

When it comes to Aldi stores, not only are they considered to be one of the most popular grocery stores in the country, but they are also one of the cheapest when it comes to prices on products.

U.S. News and World Report showed that Aldi's product quality is top tier and their prices are top shelf when it comes to saving money during these inflationary times.

How do they offer lower prices? Here are a few ways...

Over 90% of products at Aldi are private-label brands. Aldi shoppers bag their own groceries, plus, they offer a 25-cent returnable deposit to use shopping carts, and when you walk into an Aldi store, you won't hear licensed music playing on its overhead speakers.

Those are just some of the ways the four Aldi stores here in Sioux Falls decrease overhead costs, which helps to keep their prices lower.

Costco, the other Sioux Falls store to make the U.S. News and World Report list specializes in wholesale products, for those of us who like to buy in bulk. That comes in really handy for larger families.

You'll need a membership to shop at Costco. But a person can save big-time bucks when buying groceries in bulk. Plus, Costco has great prices on gas, something else that is skyrocketing yet again at the moment.

Sioux Falls has one Costco location as of right now.

There are 594 Costco stores scattered throughout the U.S. Aldi has over 2300 stores across the country as of 2023.
