AARP Issues Warning About The Future Of Social Security
The American Association of Retired Persons has issued this warning about how recent changes could have bad effects on millions of Americans.
The Social Security agency announced that beginning March 31st, those who cannot properly verify their identity over the agency's “my Social Security” online service will be required to visit an agency field office in person.
Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer for the AARP Nancy LeaMond has issued the following warning concerning changes announced by the Social Security Administration:
“The Social Security Administration's move to force people to visit offices in person for services that they have sought by phone will result in more headaches and longer wait times to resolve routine customer service needs.
Requiring rural Americans to go into an office can mean having to take a day off of work and drive for hours merely to fill out paperwork.
The Social Security Administration needs to be able to figure out a solution for Americans everywhere to get help in a timely and efficient manner.
This announcement was made without warning and is being rushed into effect with plans to make changes permanent in just two weeks.
Older Americans deserve transparency and a say in decisions that directly affect them.
Any delay in Social Security due to this change could cause serious financial hardship.
We urge the agency to reverse this decision or for Congress to step in and stand up for older Americans everywhere."
