Attention Sioux Falls residents... there's cleanup happening on almost every city street.

Due to the volume of severe storms the Sioux Empire has been experiencing this summer, the city of Sioux Falls has extended the operational hours for its two branch and tree drop-off sites.

Pigeon 605 is reporting that residents can now drop off all their yard waste and debris at either site from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM through August 11th.

Depending on how the clean-up efforts continue to go, there's a chance the city may decide to reevaluate things and extend the debris drop-off dates even further if necessary.

Let's just hope Mother Nature lightens up on the number of violent storms she's been dishing out lately!

Should the city decide to revert to its original drop-off times, those hours would be 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday - Saturday, and Noon to 5:00 PM on Sunday.

The clean-up caravan that's been making its way throughout the city has been extremely busy.

According to Donny Kuper, superintendent of the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill. He told Pigeon 605, “Based on traffic flows to the sites, we determined it would be a benefit to Sioux Falls residents to keep the sites open a few more hours each day to assist with cleanup efforts.”

It's crazy to see the volume of downed trees and branches that are still scattered on boulevards and yards throughout the city. The straight-line winds that tore through the Sioux Falls area recently really took their toll on people's trees, fences, yard furniture, pretty much anything that wasn't bolted to the ground.

Sioux Falls wants to remind its residents that it's not standard practice for the city to collect storm debris from private property after severe weather events. That type of clean-up is on the residents themselves.

The city's two drop-off sites are located near the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 1015 E. Chambers Street, and at 200 South Lyon Blvd., south of the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds near 12th Street.

Remember, the sites are free for residential use.
