I happen to think Sioux Falls is a pretty great place to celebrate the Fourth of July. In fact, our whole state, border-to-border, has a huge list of things to see and do on the fourth this year, (weather permitting that is).

For some reason, this year Wallet Hub only considered the 100 biggest cities in the U.S. when researching July 4th celebrations. That left South Dakota completely off their radar. Which is just wrong, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

They did find a couple of great Minnesota cities that go all out for our nation's birthday, and it's not really a surprise. Minneapolis came in 5th and St. Paul came in 9th.

The Top 5 Best 4th Of July Celebration Cities are:

  1. Los Angeles, CA
  2. New York, NY
  3. Seattle, WA
  4. Las Vegas, NV
  5. Minneapolis, MN

You may be wondering what criteria they used to choose these cities. Believe it or not, celebrating on a budget was the biggest reason. In other words, where people could get the biggest bang for their Fourth of July buck!

Maybe it's just me but I'd be thinking that your budget would take you much farther in Minneapolis than Los Angeles. But again, that's just me.

While comparing these 100 cities they examined things like beer and wine prices, whether fireworks were legal, party suppliers per capita, average hamburger prices, recreation friendliness, walkability, crime rates, traffic congestion,DUI fatalities and even Fourth of July weather.

After they crunched all the numbers they came up with their best and worst list which you can check out in its entirety at Wallet Hub.
