US Foods recently did a survey about all things "hot dogs" and came up with some really interesting and fun information.

Hot dogs are an all-American July 4th tradition, but regardless of when Americans eat them, they are beloved, by almost everyone. 93% of Americans eat hot dogs and 91% admit to loving them. We don't know what the deal is with hot dog haters, so for the purposes of this article, we'll just ignore them!

The ideal dog was grilled and served on a white, not wheat bun.

Americans in this survey said that they normally eat two hot dogs a month and they are willing to pay up to $5.88 for a hot dog. Now that seemed high to me, but perhaps these are more than just a dog on a bun.

People who responded to this survey think the ideal dog is grilled and served on a white bun. They also believe that hot dogs aren't just for kids (obviously) by indicating that this tubular delicacy should be on both adult and kid menus at restaurants.

When it comes to the perfect toppings for hot dogs, they went state-by-state to find out what we all love piling on our "tube steaks". In South Dakota, the condiment most chosen was relish. It was the same for Iowans, but Minnesotans chose onions as their favorite hot dog topping.

I tend to be a triple-threat topper- -with ketchup, mustard, and relish, but no onions. But that's just me.

Most Americans in this survey said mustard was their top topping- followed by ketchup, onions, relish, and chili.

However you enjoy your hot dogs, I hope your Fourth of July and Fourth weekend has at least one of these tasty American goodies in it!
