The 4th of July holds a special place in Americans' hearts and the proof is in the all of the celebrations that go on not only across the country but right here in South Dakota.
This is a very short list of celebrations that we've heard about:

Sioux Falls Schedule of Events for July 4th:

  • 7:30 AM - Fawick Park Fun Run/Walk Check-in for Registered Participants
  • 8 AM - Fun Run/Walk Kicks Off
  • 10 AM - Independence Day Parade begins & runs northbound along Phillips Ave to 6th Street
  • 11 AM - Picnic at the Levitt Shell (6th & Phillips) with free lunch for the first 3,000 people
  • 12 PM - Entertainment begins on the Levitt Shell stage
For the Sioux Falls Fireworks, you can head out to the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds for the free family event (no coolers, food & drinks will be available for purchase).

Wylie Park is the place, all day long is the time. Storybook Land Theatre will be performing at 7 PM, the municipal band will play at 8:30 and fireworks will follow soon after sunset.
The annual Black Hills Roundup is June 30 through July 4. You can count on tons of rodeo action, the cattle drive, a free barbecue, parades, a carnival, and not one, but two nights of fireworks.

Head over to the Dakota Bank Center (formerly Swiftel) for a day of music & free fun activities. Then take in the huge fireworks show after sunset.
This incredible fireworks show takes place at the river on the causeway between Chamberlain and Oacoma.
  • 10 AM - B1 Flyover & Kids & Patriots Parade
  • 10:30  AM to 4 PM - Patriot's Alley on 6th Street
  • 11 AM to 2 PM - Patriot Hot Dog Stand- 6th Street
  • 11 AM -Flag Ceremonies at Veterans' Memorial Park at Washington & 5th Street
  • 11 AM to 4 PM - Children's Fair at Way Park
  • 6 to 11 PM - Veteran's Tribute Street Dance
  • Dark/9:30 - Fireworks at Pageant Hill

Flandreau Fireworks at Sunset - Royal River Casino

Their fantastic free fireworks display begins at sunset in the parking lot.

Huron Independence Day Celebration

From 10 AM to 2 PM, there is a roster of activities:

  • 10:30 AM Parade
  • Barbecue lunch in Prospect Park following the parade
  • 10 PM Fireworks over Ravine Lake & Lake Byron

Lennox Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration

This year marks the 40th Anniversary of this awesome community celebration! There is always a fabulous parade, tons of activities in the city park, ball games, and a car show too. The day ends at dusk with a band concert and fireworks.
There is a new location for this fabulous show, this year at Prairie Village. The show starts at 10 PM and it is absolutely free!
Fireworks over Lake Mitchell begin around 9 PM.

Mobridge

The 79th Annual Sitting Bull Stampede Rodeo is a tradition in Mobridge. Activities kick off on July 2 and wrap up on July 4. You can expect great rodeo entertainment, parades, a carnival, and a fabulous fireworks show on the night of the fourth.

Mount Rushmore Fourth of July

All day on the 4th there will be cultural demonstrations and presidential performances & then that evening the traditional monument lighting ceremony.

Yankton - All American Fourth of July Celebration

This day-long free block party event is right along the river at 100 Douglas Ave in Yankton and will feature:

  • Vendors
  • Food & beverages (for purchase)
  • Games
  • Giveaways
  • Fireworks
