Sioux Falls Dive Bar Tour: The Red Eye Bar
We've been searching Sioux Falls for the best dive bars in the city. We've been to the Top Hat on 1st Avenue, the Silver Moon by Falls Park, and the Log Cabin on Burnside just to name a few. You can see all of the dive bars we've visited here. One thing they all have in common is "character."
The Urban Dictionary defines a dive bar as
A well-worn, unglamorous bar, often serving a cheap, simple selection of drinks to a regular clientele. The term can describe anything from a comfortable-but-basic neighborhood pub to the nastiest swill-slinging hole.
The Red Eye Bar at 5013 North Cliff Avenue is closer to a neighborhood pub than a swill-slinging hole. We stopped by the Red Eye Bar because we heard about their twofer special. The Red Eye serves twofers all day, every day!
The Red Eye is just off I-90 on Cliff next to a truck stop, so they have plenty of truckers as clientele. Their proximity to Wells Fargo, Citibank, and other industrial park businesses also make it a great place for after work get togethers.
If you don't feel like just sitting around drinking, there are plenty of fun things to do. The Red Eye has several pool tables and pool is free on Fridays. There's also shuffleboard, foosball and dart boards. They also have several video lottery machines.
Their signature drink isn't pretentious, it's just a Morgan Coke. A couple of the bartenders have invented their own drinks. Cody's signature drink is appropriately called "The Cody." It's UV Blue Vodka, Kinky Pink and pineapple juice.
Bartender Chris makes a Chris de Menthe. It's Creme de Menthe, Creme d'cocoa, Vodka and half and half. He tops it off with chocolate syrup. Chris is no longer at the Red Eye, but if you ask nicely, they might still make you one.
Hungry? The Red Eye has a small menu that includes pizza, burgers and fries, chislic, and more.
Stop by the Red Eye after work or on a weekend and enjoy twofers and a free game of pool on Friday. You'll enjoy the atmosphere, the service and the cheap drinks. We had a great time and plan on going back soon.
Every once in awhile they host live bands and karaoke. Like their Facebook page to keep up to date.
